I've been coming to this place since it opened years back and this was one of the few places i thought was different and has a "hipster" theme compared to other cafes in JB. I'd say they were the ones who started the trend and many cafes later followed suit but this cafe never seems to disappoint and they're still going strong. The Replacement lodge and kitchen is located at the corner of the hustling Jalan Dhoby and you won't miss the pretty white colonial looking facade. Inside it boasts a modern vibe. It's easier if you take a grab as parking can be a bit of a hassle there. Me and my kids love coming here for brunch and we tend to be a bit 'kiasu'. Which means we always arrive early before it opens, as they can gather a line quickly and trust me there will always be a line. I've tasted mostly everything on the menu but I'll highlight a few of my favourite. My kids love the sweet potato fries (RM17.90) and the amazing yogurt sauce. It just goes so well together.
The B&B french toast (RM 24.90) is a must for my boys as well and they finish the plate clean. It's basically brioche french toast served with caramelized banana, vanilla ice cream and maple syrup. It would be better if they could caramelize the banana a bit more.
My boys will also never leave without having churros (RM15.90)with hazelnut Nutella. I've tried the other dipping sauces- salted egg yolk/ salted caramel but nothing beats Nutella for me.
My personal favourite would be the soft shell crab bao. (RM29.90) Its served with sweet potato fries and i cant seem to get enough of the delicious wasabi mayo.
The unagi bowl (RM28.90)is also quite good mainly because I love everything unagi.
If you're feeling hearty, go ahead and try the breakfast platter. Its quite filling and the brioche here is actually quite good to eat on its own (RM 30.90)
Everything on the menu is good here but be warned, it's not a sharing portion ( at least not for me) and you would want to order more than one item on the menu so it'll be good if you come with friends so you can get a bit of everything. As you can see, its a bit pricey but the food is good.
So, would I come here again?
Yes, often. And my kids will make sure of it. =p
