Flowers In The Window

When I first saw this quaint little shop in Jalan Dhoby in early 2016, I actually thought that it was a flower shop and so I went in to get myself some flowers, and only then did I realize it was a cafe. It looked really rustic and different and during those times there weren't many brave cafes like this. I'm glad I popped in and sat down to try it. I remember they initially had a simple menu and it was written on some recycled paper but it did catch my eye. The decor consists of old furniture with enamel plates here and there and you could see some of your grandmas stuff here. It striked me as a little crowded initially but it was very comforting at the same time. They have odd seatings which makes it look so rustic.

I come here often, with family and friends as the food is great for sharing but be warned that they serve a large portion of veggies so for those who don't love veggies, you would be better off eating cake but who knows that their pretty awesome veggies might just convert you.

For starters, I like to order the grilled nachos with homede dips (Rm20). They give you three types of dips, but i think that there is not enough cheese on the nachos but nevertheless my kids love them.

My favourite dish here would be the Portabello Mushroom Sirloin Steak Salad (Rm32). The sliced sirloin steak is served with spinach, rockets and also sliced apple to give it a great crunch, dressed with lemon vinegarette. It would be better though if they gave us a choice on how we would want our meat as mine was served well done.

For those who love salmon, you should try the Panfried Salmon with cous cous superfood salad (Rm 26). The salmon skin is crisp but the flesh is so tender and the superfood salad is very very filling.

Their version of fish and chips is also good and they serve it with potatoes and veggie chips. As for desserts, they have an array of cakes, from brownies to earl grey and they make their cakes there in front of you in their little oven and I love the smell of the fresh bakes!

When i went there last week, they had some new desserts on the menu including pavlova and eclairs so I tried the pavlova. It was the right texture and not many people can get pavlova right. Theirs was 'marsmallowey' in the centre an had the right amount of sweetness. Me and my boys licked the plate clean.

Besides the coffee, you should really try their thyme lemonade. Its really refreshing and thirst quenching and not to mention pretty at the same time.

They've expanded their shop upstairs and have more space now, but every weekend, you will still see the line forming outside. Its a great place to meet up and enjoy healthy and delicious food.

Would i come again? yes and I don't have to wreck my diet and still feel good after a meal !
