PisangGoreng Mawar

If you're a Johorean, you definitely know Pisang Goreng Mawar. It has been here for more than 20 years now and i started coming here when i was small and when anyone mention pisang goreng ,this is it. Its the benchmark.

Situated next to Thistle hotel and in the compounds of Johor Heritage Centre, it's something between a stall and a shop. Nothing posh or fancy but do expect a line when you reach there either for taking out or eating in.

As some of you may already know, Johoreans eat their pisang goreng with sambal kicap ( sweet chili soy sauce )and we MUST have it and they make one of the best sambal kicap so far. Sweet and spicy and I love my pisang goreng drenched in it.

They don't only serve pisang goreng here but a lot of your typical local food and kuih such as kuih lopis, karipap, popiah, roti jala, nasi lemak and mee hoon bungkus, in the traditional daun pisang ( banana leaves ) pulut kuning, laksa johor and they're all tasty. You will be spoilt for choices and like me, you'll end up ordering everything . The sambal for the nasi lemak is quite good too, although I wished they had a slice of cucumber in it.

Besides your usual tea, coffee they have 'air kelapa' and it goes perfectly well with the hot pisang goreng in our weather.

The pisang goreng is a bit pricey compared to other places in town but the kueh and other local delicacies are quite reasonable.

For those heading down to Johor Bahru, you must drop by for the pisang goreng with kicap, que for it, sweat while eating it in the hot humid weather.

Its open everyday from 10am-7pm and closes on Saturday.

Would I come here again, of course! As it is only a stone's throw away from work.
