It Roo Cafe in Jolan Dhoby Johor Bahru has been established before I was even born and they claim to serve the best chicken chop in town. I've been coming here since I started working in Johor Bahru and I realized the crowd never cease. They're one of the most long standing cafes along that area and even the new hipster cafes cant keep up with them. Be ready to wait for a seat during peak hours especially lunch time. They open from noon until 930pm. Don't be surprised as it's a small shop and the tables are really close to one another. They serve chicken chop and local dishes as well such as noodles and fried rice. Their chicken chop is simple, they have grilled or fried but the latter is the popular one. The fried chicken is crisp on the outside and so tender and juicy on the inside. They serve it with potato wedges and a dallop of coleslaw. The 2 side dishes are pretty decent. They also have 2 types of sauce, mushroom and black pepper. I prefer the black pepper as the mushroom is pretty bland.
I would always order the chicken chop with 2 eggs where they put 2 sunny side up eggs on top and i love it when the yolk is all runny and drenches the chicken chop. This is a complete meal for me.
For drinks, do order the float as it is so old school and goes well with the chicken chop. The price is pretty reasonable as the chicken chop is RM16 and RM18 if you add the 2 eggs.
Would i come here again? Yes.
